Hello everyone! Welcome or welcome back to Poorwa’s blog. So as I promised in my last post, here I am with another book review. This time we will be talking about one of Jenny Han’s bestselling novels of all times To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before that I just read last month. This review will mainly focus on the first book of the trilogy (I only just found out it is a trilogy lol. I thought there were only books in the series).
So without any further ado, let’s get started…
“If love is like a possession, maybe my letters are like my exorcisms.”
Genre: Romance| Teen | Rom-Com
Synopsis
Lara Jean Covey, a high school junior, secretly writes love letters to her crushes and hides them under her bed, never intending for anyone to see them. Her world is turned upside down when these letters are mysteriously sent out, forcing her to confront her past crushes, including Josh, her sister’s ex-boyfriend, and Peter Kavinsky, a popular boy who proposes they fake a relationship to make his ex-girlfriend jealous.
As Lara Jean navigates the complexities of this fake relationship, she finds that this might be the beginning of something new, leading to a heartfelt and humorous exploration of love, family, and self-discovery.
Rating: ⭐ 3.8 stars
My Thoughts…
I love the author’s writing style. Lara Jean’s POV is written in such a realistic way, like that’s exactly the way things go around in my mind, I personally felt attacked. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is overall a fun read. If you are looking for a good light read, then this is for you. What I mean when I say a ‘good and light read’ is that it doesn’t give you much to cling onto. When you finish the book, you’ll be putting it down with a smile on your face.
Lara Jean is such a relatable character. I lost count of how many times I saw myself in her. I felt second-hand embarrassment whenever she did, I felt helpless myself whenever she needed help, and I felt her whenever she was trying to hold back those tears. You can’t help but like her character. Though she makes immature decisions sometimes, you can’t blame her for being so pure-hearted.
One thing that really stood out for me was how the book portrays sister bonds. Having an elder sister myself, I could relate to an unhealthy extent with Lara Jean’s and Margot’s relationship. It literally made me cry.
All the characters were great. For the plot, I won’t say it was something unpredictable, I had already guessed who might have sent out her love letters in the first place, but still that doesn’t make the story boring because of course this isn’t a mystery novel. Though on a second note, it annoyed me a bit that no one is concerned about who did actually sent the letters? That was the most unrealistic thing in the story.
Another thing that I didn’t like is that there were so many parts that felt unnecessary somehow. I was tired of reading what she cooked everyday and how bad Kitty wants a pet dog, and in the second book, there was even more of that, like Kitty trying to set up her dad with her neighbor and some more points I can’t remember now.
The plot itself was quite predictable. The romance on the other hand was something you’ve heard of a hundred times in different stories, but the writing was so good that it didn’t feel cliché at all. So that’s a plus point.
The sequel ‘P.S. I Still Love You’ is completely based on the events of the first book. So if you want more of Lara Jean and Peter, you can check it out. It didn’t really stand up to my expectations because the writing felt a bit incomplete. I wanted the author to further explain the characters’ actions, especially Peter’s, I think it would’ve been better if we got more flashbacks of Lara Jean’s friendship with Genevieve. Also the ending felt a bit rushed when the whole story was going so smoothly… so I think there was room for something better. But overall, it was a good read.
I just found out about the third book ‘Always and Forever, Lara Jean’ in the series while writing this review. I wish I’d researched properly before so I could review the whole series together. Nevermind, I’ll let you know my thoughts on the series altogether in some other post. For now, I am so excited to complete this trilogy. I just hope the third book is also an easy light “feel-good” read like its prequels because it will be a shame if it gives me a sad ending. I’m asking you guys, if you’ve read this trilogy, let me know if I should read the final book or not. I’m asking this because I’m totally satisfied after reading the first two books and the story is pretty complete for me, so I don’t want any new plot twists to let me down.
So that’s it for today. Hope you enjoyed reading this post. Thank you for visiting!

I remember reading this way back when I was a teenager. I think I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book, though I never got around to reading the rest of the books in the trilogy. :) Glad you enjoyed this one. Great review!
Wow now I’m getting more excited to watch the movie.
I have high hopes from the third book in the trilogy. But I’m still confused whether I should read it or just leave it lol
Thank you, aimee!
Wow, I enjoy reading your reviews, Poorwa! I read this book a long time ago and hence don’t remember anything except that I was happy after finishing this. You should watch the movie because it is so fun to see the characters in real life, haha.
Welcome to my comfort zone. A safe place to talk about life and all our little joys that don’t seem much significant to the world outside. Here we won’t be judged!
