Monthly Wrap-up | July 2024

The month of July started as a big blow for me. The first thing I remember from July is that we got our long awaited 3rd sem results. And as if life isn’t problematic enough already,  there was a lot of drama at college regarding the results where I was one of the main victims (yes, I had my own slice-of-life kdrama moment). But I’m happy to tell you that your girlie got through all of it well,  and at the end, everything went back to how it was supposed to be.

The saying is true- Tough times always leave you a lesson that you will never forget. With time, the details of those incidents fade away but how you felt at that moment stays for a long long time.

Besides some bittersweet moments, July was overall a good month for me.

Music

July was a musical treat for me. My favorite Little Mix member Jade made her solo debut with Angel of My Dreams, and I’m so obsessed with this song. Then of course, if you’ve read my review of NCT 127’s latest album, you know that I’ve been playing it on repeat. Then Jimin released Who, I mean I’m not over Like Crazy yet and here he is with another banger (and how many times I’ve watched the MV!? Yes). Here are my top songs of July…

  • Can’t Help Myself – NCT 127
  • Who – Jimin
  • Angel of My Dreams – Jade
  • we can’t be friends (wait for your love) – Ariana Grande
  • days gone by – Day6
  • Time Capsule – NCT 127

Movies/Series

Bubble

I watched this movie out of boredom one random Tuesday and I had never expected it to become one of my top five anime movies. Bubble is a sweet and sad heartwarming story with great characters and beautiful music. I was simply in awe with how beautiful the animation was and if you decide to go watch it, I always prefer subtitles over dubbing, especially with this movie.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc

I could feel the anticipation building from the first episode of this season and damn… the final episode, I was on the edge of my seat all the time. I can’t believe we’re so close to the finale now. It’s going to be epic for sure. I don’t know how long we will have to wait for the next season to come but I’m here for it. I just hope I don’t forget all the details from the previous seasons until that.

Insidious

I thought I had watched the Insidious franchise completely but had no idea there were five movies overall. So I decided to watch them all in order this time. I liked the first and the last movie a lot, and the others were good too for the horror and storywise, I had fun rewatching all of it again.

Books

Even If These Tears Disappear Tonight

I was thrilled when I found out there was a sequel to ‘Even if This Love Disappears Tonight’. The first book, which I read last year, had a lasting impact on me. If the first book broke my heart, then I can say this sequel mended it. I loved how the story goes parallel to what we read before, showing us a different POV. Despite my concerns about losing the essence in translation from Japanese, the English version worked just fine.

Much recommended if you’re looking for a read that will make you cry and realize the meaning of love and life.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean

Fear turned into reality, I was disappointed by this book. Some stories shouldn’t be stretched too much, and that’s what happened with the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series. The first book was lovely, and its ending made me eager to read the sequel. But things started to get lousy from there. Yet, it was not bad.

However, Always and Forever, Lara Jean felt unnecessary. It took me half the book to see where the story was going, and the second half felt rushed. The family dynamics I adored in the first book made me skim through chapters this time, especially the lengthy and irrelevant wedding planning parts. On the other hand, the main characters showed no growth and felt more childish.

Despite another happy ending, it didn’t seem realistic. I recommend this series for those looking for a light read, but only the first two books. The story feels better and complete without the final book.

Life

I did a lot of different activities this July, so I can say it was a productive month for me?

After getting the results, I was motivated to study for my next exams. The last three semesters, I got sufficient study material from YouTube and a couple of websites online but this semester, our syllabus requires us to go deeper (and am I interested in doing that? Not at all but ah this life). The classes were so fun this semester but sadly, my notes don’t provide me enough content to fill those sheets, so I’m currently searching libraries (both online and offline) for course books.

I also did a lot of field work this July. We sowed corn and peanut seeds in our backyard, and I helped a little with fencing and getting rid of the weeds. Last week, me and my mom planted marigold saplings literally everywhere we could, all the empty places in the garden and backyard are now full with these plants. I love marigolds, and I can’t wait for them to bloom during Diwali and make it more special.

I only visited college a few days last month but those days were precious to me. After I got distanced from my school friends, I was starting to hold a grudge against such friendships, I lost trust in the word ‘forever’. But the incidents of July made me realize that I’ve never been alone in my life, and how fortunate I am for that. I don’t know about forever, but the fact that whenever I’m going through tough times, I have friends by my side, that makes all the difference.

Here’s to a lovely August ✨

    Love the wrap up!
Congratulations on doing great in your uni exams!! ✨

Since our music tastes are slightly different, I haven’t heard any of those songs 🥲 so let’s talk books!

I totally agree with Always and Forever. The first book was perfect as it is. But since I read the trilogy in two days, the three books somehow blended in my memory and I can’t tell which is which. I remember being annoyed by the drag and unnecessary drama between Peter and Gwen though..
Have you watched the movies yet? I really liked how the characters were portrayed there!

It’s good to see you’ve done so many things! The drawings were really adorable. 💌

    Have a beautiful August!

Ikr!? The first book was so good but the drag made it annoying.
I haven’t watched the movie yet but I’ll watch it very soon. I’ve heard great reviews of it.

I so agree about To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series—I loved the other books but literally got so annoyed with her making the worst college decision of all time. Such a fun read!

Ah… I was so excited for Jade’s debut single and I have been listening to Angel of my Dreams on repeat too. Plus, the video is amazing. I will be curious to hear what the “sad” version is like when it is released!

Wishing you a lovely August and I hope your marigolds do well! ❤️
