Blogging breaks are important indeed. For bloggers, taking a blogging break when needed can be one of the best ways to release stress and to continue blogging again with a better mindset and energy. Well, if you like reading blogging-related posts you might already know about the advantages of taking a blogging break and why they are important. But even every good thing has a dark side you know, and a long break from blogging might be an example of it.
This post is based on all my experience. It may be right for some wrong for others; I’m writing this because I myself am feeling like my blogging break that I decided to take in the last week of August went too long. I used to publish around 5 posts a week and now it is even hard to publish one. Well, I’m not gonna talk much about that today as there’s nothing I can do about my school stuff. But I’m sure very much okay with sharing my blogging mistakes here so that anyone who reads this doesn’t do the same.
The term -‘Write Regularly’ disappeared from my mind
We bloggers very well know the importance of practicing writing regularly. I also made a promise to myself that I will definitely not remove writing from my daily schedule no matter what – which I couldn’t keep. It’s not that I left writing anyhow. I didn’t. I did write… every day, it was just that I was writing assignments, projects, or making notes but couldn’t write a blog post. During my unintentionally extended hiatus, everything else was important for me but not giving time for my blog.
I lost my habit of reading
I guess I should change the title into something like a ‘Confession Post’ lol. I would really miss reading other bloggers’ posts in my Reader but whenever I would find some time off and try to read some blog posts, this thought distracted me- “You’ve already got more than enough to read, study, or memorize. You’re on hiatus, that’s not important right now.” And I would just leave it like that. Though I’m trying my best to get my reading habit back and trust me, I’m doing well in it but I still don’t get enough time to leave comments like I want. I hope it will get better with time.
It became hard to follow my schedule
I had lost my habit of reading and writing then don’t even talk about how hard it already is to manage both JEE classes and school stuff at the same time. And in this kind of situation if you would ask me to get back into my blogging schedule of publishing 5 posts a week like everything’s easy and chill… it might not be so cool. That’s why I had to reduce my blogging schedule so I can manage both sides even if it happens slowly.
It affected even my typing
Okay, so this one is a bit funny, alright? I remember how well my typing speed was improving in the week before I went on hiatus and my score of that time was the highest I’ve ever reached. But during my blogging break, there wasn’t a day I even thought to test my typing speed or just practice once… no. I would use the keyboard trying to write maybe a post but I can’t compare that to practice typing. Two weeks ago I finally made my mind to check how am I doing now and the results had me laughing on the floor. My speed had decreased around 17 wpm and it was really funny, it was hard to keep the accuracy and I don’t know what was wrong with me.
As I said before, this post is based on all my experience. If you think that you need rest and want to take a blogging break, it’s totally up to you how long you want it to be. It may not be the same for you. A habit is a crazy thing and if you leave it for some time, it’s even crazier. These were just some blogging mistakes I made and it’s alright. I just felt right to share my experience here. It’s still hard for me to read and write posts on a regular basis but I’m trying my best to give some time here too because you know… I can’t leave blogging. That’s why I ended up having no schedule for my blog for some time so that I won’t feel much pressure because of it.
And one more thing…
Huge thanks to all of you!!! We’ve surpassed the milestone of 750+ WP followers and 900+ Email Subscribers on Poorwa’s blog. It would’ve been impossible without you guys, I’m just so grateful to all of you. Thanks for everything!!!
Stay healthy and happy!
Is there anything you would add to this list? Feel free to share your experience of taking a blogging break.
