How You Can Prepare For Exams In A Better Way

Hey there! How are you doing? Students… must be stressed about exams, right? Don’t worry my friend, you’re not alone in this. I’ve just been through the darkest nightmare of a high school student’s life popularly known in India as ‘12th Boards’. So yeah, I’m quite experienced in this kind of stuff. And in today’s post, I’m gonna share some tips and piece of advice for the students who have exams coming.

Just Stop Making Time Tables

I’ve seen many students wasting hours making timetables on like what they have to study at that time of day, what they have to do after that etc. etc. And after they’re done, they’ll decorate it and waste some more time finding the best spot for it in the room. Well, I was one of these students until I realized that this is just an excuse to ignore studies. What you can do instead is just do all the planning in your mind and be determined that you must study at this and that time of day. This will save you time and I can tell you that your brain is more trustworthy than a distracting piece of paper.

The “It’s The Last Time I’m Studying This” Formula

You know those questions that are always so important and have high chances that they’ll come in exams, I personally hate them, it’s like “I’ll do whatever you say but just not this question”. Whenever you feel so done with a topic and it starts to get frustrating, just challenge yourself and keep in mind that you’re never going to study the same thing again. “It’s the very last time, I gotta do it, I won’t have to see this question’s face ever again in life”, thoughts like these seem silly sometimes but no one can motivate you more than your own self. And after you have memorized everything just say ‘goodbye’ and then on the day of exam you’ll be most excited to do the same question that you used to hate once.

Try To Stay Away From Classmates

Me and my friends love group studying, and so do my all classmates. But when it’s exam time, we prefer to study alone. Classmates can distract you from your main goal, they’ll ask you about your preparations, you’ll ask them and then there will be someone who’ll be like “I’ve almost done everything” and some will also make you realize that you haven’t studied the most important questions according to them. These things are really distracting and enough to let your morale down so I advise you to don’t get into these talks and choose self-studying.

Use Notes

While preparing for exams there’s just too much stuff always left and we often forget to check our notes turning pages of the thick textbook. Notes are helpful when you don’t have that much time to memorize the long answers, so you take a look at your notes to understand the main points and it’s just hundred percent better than being clueless about the topic. The day before exams we don’t even get time to at least take a look at all the questions and answers that’s why you should always make short notes during classes that don’t have to be perfectly neat and clean. In my case, no one else can study through my notes, they’re just made for my understanding.

Be Confident in Yourself

This is a must! Just know that you tried hard. We all have our own limits, and marks are not everything just study like that that you don’t have any regrets after exams. Make your own ways and I can tell you that they will work even better for you than these tips. Be confident that whatever happens you’re going to do better and your hard work will pay off for sure. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back before entering the exam hall. You’ll do great!

These tips have been helpful to me throughout these past years and I hope that you found this post helpful. And if your exams are already over, let me know in the comments below if you agree or relate to any of these points.

The “Try To Stay Away From Classmates” point is so helpful!! The day before a social studies exam, our teachers split us into groups. I said I’d rather prefer to study on my own, since group studying is just a waste of time, honestly. It’s fun, but definitely not productive.
(And, guess what? I actually ended up getting 100% on that social exam.😂)

yeah that’s why I don’t prefer group studying when it’s almost time for exams. We can study plus have fun with friends the whole year!

Stop making timetables!! ( andd To do listsss) relate to that a lot. I hv been doing it since forever and i hv nvr followed it. Instead now I just write down whatever i need to study and cut off from that.

Self studying works the best for me!!

Notessss! Theres no time to keep reading through text book when exam approaches. Detailed notes(but not too long) are so very useful!
Also i find writing short notes whenever revising is very helpful to cement it to memory.

    Very useful post Poorwa!!

Also, i just saw your email, I’m thinking a bit about different ideas and will get to you soon!

All the points are so damn true!! I’ve been there and experienced it. I used to waste hours and hours in preparing timr table just to ignore it and go with the flow in the end.
During exams most of friends ask me to study in group but I always suggest them to study alone. That really helped me securing 2nd rank in 12th grade. (just me flexing). So yeah, one more point i would like to add is- throw away your phone (I mean 💀, don’t use social medias too much. Take a short break from them till all exams are over and then you can have fun to the max, no one will question you)
    Great advices 👏🏻👏🏻

Absolutely, phone and social media can be so distracting. And if studying online then just turn off all notifications. Great one, Pavithra!
      Thank you so much!

I’ve used all these tips throughout my years of studying. Definitely stay away from classmates – I don’t like group studying anyway. And study timetables are a waste of time🤷‍♀️. But I can agree that all these tips are very useful and the ones I’ve tried definitely work🎉. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼.

Yes, making timetables is good for nothing, instead of that one can make a list of the topics they have to study so it’s easy to know how much stuff is left to do yet.
      Thanks Sabrina! And my pleasure!
