So, it’s been 9 years since my favorite group debuted. How could I not write about them on this special day?
Hey everyone! Poorwa here.
June started in the worst way possible for me. Losing my dog was devastating and I was not in a fine state of mind for like a week. Home didn’t feel like home and I literally stopped doing everything I like including blogging. But you know? Life goes on. Therefore, I’m back again.
So BTS’s long-awaited anthology album Proof has been finally released on June 10th. I don’t know but I’m feeling better each day after its release, that’s the thing BTS holds for me. The Festa contents – their old dance practice videos… all made my day. And today is definitely a special day. This hashtag #MyBTStory is trending on YouTube shorts since the release of Yet To Come – their new single – and ARMYs worldwide are sharing their stories with BTS on various platforms. So I decided to share my story as a fan of the biggest boy band in the world BTS, on my blog.

How it all started?
It was the summer of 2019. I knew nothing about K-pop and in the name of Korean songs, I only knew Gangnam Style by PSY (Who in the world doesn’t know this song?). I came to know about BTS from my sister. She was listening to CNCO a lot back then and somehow found BTS’ Mic Drop MV on YouTube. She was totally impressed by their music, style, and just everything. She had bookmarked some of their performances on my PC, and when I saw that I was like – “Now who are they?”
Whenever my sister finds a new band or artist, I always give that annoying reaction, now don’t ask me why. I just do that. I remember my first BTS song, I watched a performance, it was Boy With Luv. I was never the person who judges people by their fashion or in what language they are singing. So that was never a problem for me. I totally loved their style. They were all so good. But Jimin caught my eye the most. The guy with pink hair whose voice was so beautiful and danced so gracefully, I was really impressed. Then I wanted to watch more of their performances.
I watched their performances of Fire, Go Go, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Idol. I was still not a fan but it was really fun watching them. I just love talented people so much and there was nothing to doubt about them. They were awesome. But I felt that it was really hard to recognize them. Like their hair color was different every time and they all looked alike. I thought for certain that Jimin and Jungkook are siblings. But it wasn’t that. I thought that 7 members in a band are too much, but look at me now, I stan a group of 23 members.
So, when did I become a fan?
Pass the end of winter’s cold
Until the spring day comes again
Until the flowers bloom again
Please stay, please stay there a little longer
This iconic song – Spring Day – there could be literally nothing better than this. When I watched the performance, I was nearly in tears. Thank goodness that there were English lyrics so I could understand the song while watching the performance. It was sad, it was hopeful, it was beautiful. Each part of the song is a masterpiece, and they performed it so well. Then I found out that Spring Day is a tribute to those who lost their lives in the Seoul Fairy Tragedy. I felt immense respect for them. Loving BTS was out of my control.
I started watching their MVs and with each song I listened to, I liked them even more. I noticed how their music was different from other artists, how they speak for youth, and how they are saving millions of people from depression.
Since the beginning, they’ve been singing for youth and teaching them to love themselves. In their songs, BTS have talked about the torturous education system and how students have been suffering from that. Their song Butterfly talks about how your life is so precious, that they are afraid of losing you…
Will you stay by my side
Will you promise me
If I let go of your hand, you’ll fly away and break
I’m scared scared scared of that
One thing I love about K-pop is that they share lots of behind-the-scenes content of their artists. Not only those, but they also do their own fun shows that make their fans feel more connected to their idols. BTS’ bangtan bombs, episodes on reality shows, Run BTS itself, and their interviews… they give healing kinda vibes.
Their music makes me feel like I’m in a safe place. It’s just clear why their fans are so protective towards them, because so am I.
They have songs for every feeling. Their lyrics are deep and heart-touching. They have songs for their fans and even for their haters. My absolute favorite Mic Drop is like a slap on the face of haters and the lyrics are just killing it.
I have no problem when someone says they don’t like BTS, we all have different likes, but hating them for literally no reason is unbearable. They are just doing their work, so why can’t you people just mind your own business? They’ve worked day and night for the place they have achieved today. And still, some people call them overrated. Really?
Overrated… I just hate this word. Who are you to call someone overrated? Let’s assume you’ve been working hard for an exam for 9 years, and your work paid off – you ranked number 1 worldwide, but some people are saying that you don’t deserve it. How would you feel?
So haters, please. Go and get a life, get some other job instead of bad-mouthing talented people because it will do no good to you. They are already on top and have millions of people who understand, respect, and love them.
BTS showed me reasons to love myself and saved me in my darkest times. I’ll always be grateful for my 7 brothers – RM, Jin, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Thanks for everything!
Happy 9th anniversary to BTS and all ARMYs worldwide. Here’s to many more years together!
