Monthly Wrap-up | August 2024

I had been contemplating whether I should write this monthly wrap-up or not because August did not really give me a lot of moments that would leave me with anticipation for any more months like this. Though my exams going well and a good festive day of Rakshabandhan did bring some good hours of feeling confident and happy, August still managed to become my worst month of 2024 yet.

But then again, by not writing this post just because I didn’t have an amazing month, I would be taking a step towards turning this blog into a typical social media feed where everyone’s lives seem so perfect. While I love seeing happy faces on my feed, this blog is more than that – ups and downs, and everything in between.

I remember how at the beginning of August all over social media were aesthetic galleries of how beautiful the month of August is. But then in a week, my feed turned into something dark – like a transition from a cozy dream to the harsh reality. For the first time in my life, I had such an Independence day. 15th of august was the day that made me learn the true meaning of independence and the fact that it was a ‘happy’ independence day for only the half population of the country – not for women.

Added to that, the stress of my 4th sem finals and some personal mental breakdowns… the mantra of my life played on repeat in my mind – “why are we here? Just to suffer?”. I’m sure from now on whenever there’s an exam I will be more afraid of falling sick on the exam day than actually failing the exam. The cold and high fever that came in the morning of my first exam was so unexpected and I was thankful for the first time that we got afternoon shift instead of our usual morning shifts, because if it was the other way I don’t know what would have happened.

Then as if all that wasn’t enough, the end of the month came with a finishing blow when someone I considered myself a fan of and respected for their talent, turned out to be a predator lurking under a mask all these years. It’s getting harder for me to trust people day by day.

Despite having most of the month like it was my enemy, I was able to steal a few good moments that gave temporary happiness but it was enough for me. Learning to accept life as it is has been one of the best decisions of my life, somehow it’s more than just a comforting thought and gives hope that there will be better days and we are ones that will make them.

My best moments of August included the day of Rakshabandhan and the after-hours of leaving the exam hall as despite not being in my best state I did a good job in the exams. So I have no regrets about it. Other than those, I watched some good movies and also my playlist was on fire the whole month, so that gave me a great time. I didn’t read many books though because I thought that would stray my mind from studying for my exams but I managed to read two books still. Let’s check them out…

Movies

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind

For everyone who hasn’t watched this movie yet, go and watch it. Shoutout to my brother for recommending it to me. Based on a true story, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind is a movie that will inspire and touch your heart.

The Dead Don’t Die

Does it make sense if I say I enjoyed watching this movie but did not like it? As someone who’s been disappointed by zombie apocalypse movies a number of times before, I will say this movie was fine for a casual watch when you want to pass time (plus, the song The Dead Don’t Die was good) but don’t get your hopes up because then you will be left disappointed.

Monte Carlo

I was living under a rock all these years, now this is a comfort movie for me. I had such a big smile on my face watching this movie and the effect lasted for hours after I finished the movie, and then the smile came back again when I picked it up for a rewatch the next day. I loved loved loved it, the characters, the plot, everything.

Princess Protection Program

After Monte Carlo, I HAD to watch another Selena Gomez movie because dude… I’d already been a fan of her as a singer for years, I don’t know what held me back from watching her as an actress before but now I’m a fan of her movies too. I enjoyed watching Selena and Demi together, and the movie no doubt took me back to the Disney world.

Books

Twisted Series

The Twisted Series by Ana Huang had been on my TBR for a long time and I finally picked it out to read last month. In August I could only read the first two books – Twisted Love and Twisted Games. And just two days ago I finished reading Twisted Hate (that stands for my favorite in the series) but we’ll talk about that in our next wrap-up post.

What I liked the best about this series are the characters. Impressive is the word to describe them. Romance used to not make it in my favorite genres before but I’ve grown a greater liking to it since last year. Though dark romance still gives me a bit of trauma each time, I knew I signed up for this while picking up this series. Excited to read the next book soon.

Songs

My playlist was on fire the whole month. I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying listening to my new findings – specially Day6 songs. I haven’t even heard a quarter of their all songs yet but the ones I have, they are all spectacular. Then of course, there were songs from my last month playlist that never left.

Favorite track of the month – You make me by Day 6

So that’s all for today. Thank you for reading. I hope you are having a good September. Mine has been alright so far. I’m trying to get back into my hobbies like drawing and well, internet surfing. I hope my classes for next semester start asap because it’s getting a bit hectic staying at home all the time as my mind keeps straying to weird thoughts that later lead to overthinking. But I like thinking, so that’s okay, I guess?

How are you doing? Let me know in the comment section below.

It’s really hard when someone you respect turns out to be a not-nice person, and if it’s revealed that they’re a predator and you just have to throw the entire person away in the trash, it’s even worse. I hope your September turns around!

It is hard indeed, but it’s not our fault for thinking someone is a decent human being, is it? So I guess we just gotta move on.
Thank you, Angie! It means a lot ❤️ Hope you’re having a good month!

Ah, yes, August was a terrible month indeed. But I’m glad you were able to experience some moments of happiness in between! Wow, I have not watched any of those movies but I might watch some of those soon. Ooh, your playlist looks amazing. I’m always so jealous of people who are able to discover new music and like some of that. I just cannot listen to music other than what I listen to on a daily basis. I cannot even count how many of my friends have recommended the twisted series to me! I have been just a little hesitant to pick up those books because dark romance isn’t a genre I like reading:( It is good you decided to write this post because your wrap ups are always fun to read and these are some of the posts I look forward to reading every month, haha. I hope you have a great September ❤️

Haha I’m lucky in that case indeed, i always find new songs to play on repeat. I will send you some of my recent favorite songs to check out! Hope you’ll like them!
Ah I get it. Dark romance is new for me too. I’m going to pick up some light books to read this month, in philosophy maybe.

I’m glad you enjoy reading my wrapups 💕 Thank you Roshni! Have a great September!

I don’t know why but I feel like August wasn’t great for most people lol. I remember watching Monte Carlo as a teenager back when it first came out and I loved it! I haven’t seen it since but thanks for the reminder. Have an awesome September 😊

Hi, Poorwa! 💕✨ Firstly, I am glad that you had some cheerful moments sprinkled in the month of August, but it saddens me that August was also not the best month given the experiences that you mentioned. 😔 For one, I pray that the situation in your country (and every country for that matter) regarding the mistreatment of women will simmer down and come to a real resolution that will bring a serious peace of mind and justice to all girls and women. 🙏 What also upsets me a lot though is how you fell sick on the day of your exams. 😣 I am happy that you still managed to do well on your exams, but most importantly, I am happy and relieved that you are ok, safe, and healthy. ✨ I just thank God. 🙏🤍✨ Overall, what I have always loved about your blog, Poorwa, is that you are just so honest and transparent in every blog post that you write. ✨ Not everything we post on our blogs has to be all sunshine and rainbows, lol, for it is healing to have a space to share the ups and downs in life, for that is realistic and relatable. ✨ You were honestly in my thoughts and prayers throughout the month of August, Poorwa, and in general, even when “life happens” as they say, and we get busy sometimes, or we just need some time to ourselves to navigate and think about everything that is happening in our lives. I never want you to feel unwell or overwhelmed. Continue to trust and believe that beauty and light will indeed come after the storm and even in the midst of the storm, Poorwa, because it will, and I agree with you that we can indeed make our days better. ⛈️🌫️⛅️🌤️☀️ May this month and every month moving forward bring you so much more joy, peace, healing, and relief to your heart, mind, and spirit, Poorwa, as well as your family. 🙏🤍 Love you! 🫶🏼🤍

I don’t have words to express how much it means to me. And the fact that you, and my other readers too, give your precious time reading my blog posts and especially when you leave comments like this…. ahhh it means the world to me.
You made my day (night) with this.

And I wish the same for you! Take care!
