5 Things I love to do in my spare time

I have a love-hate relationship with having too much time on my hands. Now don’t take the word ‘hate’ too seriously here, it was just a figure of speech. What I mean is I prefer being busy unless it gets out of control. I do enjoy having nothing to do for a while but after some days, I feel like I will go crazy if I’m not given some proper time-taking tasks to do and deadlines. Don’t blame me, blame the education system.

While on the other hand, I also love having free time because that’s the only time when I can do whatever I want without my imaginary future self screaming in the back of my mind something like “I’m going through hell right now because of you”. Oh, she never speaks kind words to me cries in silence. Never mind her.

In today’s post, I’m going to share my top 5 activities that I love to do in my spare time…

Doing Nothing

Relatable? I just don’t know how but this has kind of become my favorite hobby recently. This is different from sleeping, okay? You just sit in a place and observe. Little things that make you realize it actually feels great to just pause sometimes. No judging. I know it is a very unproductive thing to do and whenever someone sees me zoning out like that they always make a comment like “Don’t you have anything to do?” And I’ve noticed that I don’t get called out for playing on my phone this often but for just relaxing and observing, which is at least better for my eyesight.

Recording song covers

The conditions that allow this to happen are 1) free time which is obvious, and 2) having no one around. The thing is I don’t like my singing at all when someone is within the range of listening, I like my singing when I can casually float around the house and sing however and whatever I like freely. Luckily, last month after my exams were over, I had quite many opportunities when these conditions were met and I was able to record some song covers that I actually liked, but sadly, after a few days, I changed my mind and deleted them. Shouldn’t have done so, I know, but who’s gonna make me understand when I’m really doing these things.

Watching movies

I would’ve added K-dramas too, but I hate to admit that I haven’t watched a single K-drama in over a year. I love them, I really do, but it’s just lately that I only get to adding the shows in my watchlist and never to the point of watching them. But for the last few months, I’m actually liking movies a lot. If you’ve been following my blog since the beginning, you might know that I was never into movies. I even wrote a post titled “Why I don’t like movies a lot” back in 2021 I think. But time has changed now. This year I watched too many good movies that I don’t want to stop now.

Finding new things to keep me busy

This includes YouTube surfing and finding new hobbies or getting back into the old ones. Every time my exams are over, I go to YouTube feeling like my first time there. Because the majority of the videos I watch there after we’re halfway through a semester are related to my course (now that I’ve mentioned it, I’d like to give a shoutout to Neso Academy. That channel is a lifesaver).  So when I have spare time, I search for vlogs, variety shows, and interviews of my favorite artists, some informative and philosophical content, as well as cooking videos (even though I can’t cook, it’s therapeutic). On the other hand, I try to pursue my old hobbies again that I leave behind whenever life gets a little hectic, such as learning languages, playing guitar, and drawing.

Listening parties with friends

Okay, so this is the latest one to my collection of top things to do when you’re free, and probably also the best one. Being a girl, who has literally no IRL people to talk about the one thing that makes her feel most excited, I’m grateful to have some of the coolest online friends who understand my love language of sharing my favorite songs with them. While I would love to listen to music with them whenever I can, I prefer doing these music sessions when we have free time because then we get to really enjoy the moment to the fullest. And I wouldn’t miss that for anything else.

Doing nothing is such a fun thing!! I don’t know why people get triggered when they see people doing nothing. Like it’s okay to pause sometimes

😂I can definitely relate to the one of searching out interviews of my favorite artists. Marshmellow and Micheal Jackson are my top. Doing nothing can be therapeutic. Just give your brain some break and sip water 😇

”Don’t blame me, blame the education system”🗣️🔥 YES lol! SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS! You can’t help but feel aimless with free time if you’ve been constantly going 600 miles an hour lol!

A “quality waste of time” really helps sometimes. Like recently, Selene had me watch my first K-drama and that was some well-needed R&R. So yeah, all power to you when you can relax and do what makes you happy😄

K-dramas are comfort. Totally agree. Though it’s just sad I haven’t watched any in a couple of years 😩
