A few days ago, this fellow blogger was trying to prove it to me how unreasonable it is for me to post everyday on my blog as if I’m being forced and when I’m not even getting paid to do it. While, in all honesty, my mind was straight going for a ‘mind your own business’ kind of reply, I decided to keep my calm. The thought suddenly crossed my mind that what if someone else who might be genuinely curious about if it’s really worth participating in such a blogging challenge stumbles upon this conversation. Keeping that in mind, I tried to give a thoughtful response. Well, it’s another thing that the other blogger who was pretending to be my well-wisher turned out to have only followed my blog because they were expecting me to promote theirs.
Now I think my previous reply would’ve been better for him.
But at least, I got the idea of this blog post out of our conversation. This post is for those who are wondering if it’s really worth putting your time and energy writing blog posts regularly for a whole month.
The answer is YES!
There’s no doubt that this challenge will consume a lot of time and energy. And sometimes it does feel like a lot. But is the outcome worth the hardwork? Yes, it is. Depends on what you really want to achieve through this challenge.
My goal was to conquer my writer’s block that I couldn’t get rid of for months, plus I really wanted something that could keep me busy and distracted. I had started doubting my own abilities to blog like before. But blogtober so far has given me better results than I even asked for. It was hard to believe it myself when this morning I was telling my mom that I’ve published 15 posts on my blog this month and we’ve made it halfway through Blogtober now.
The thing is sometimes you need a push to achieve your goals. And that’s what Blogtober has been helping me with. I’m still the same busy with uni work, giving tuitions and everything else like I was at the beginning of this year, but it would take me 5 months to publish 15 posts, and now I was able to do that in half a month only.
Another thing I realized while doing this challenge is that it’s totally okay if you don’t post every single day. No one’s here to eliminate you. You can set your own personal blogging goals and this challenge will just give you the push and atmosphere you’re looking for to achieve those goals.
For me, I wanted to test myself if I can really do this – writing and publishing regularly. And I passed. Now that I had achieved one goal, I decided to take a day off from posting yesterday and it felt totally great. If I wanted to I could’ve posted yesterday too but it didn’t feel necessary, like I had no fear of losing my streak this time as I had a week ago. And, I celebrated my small win as I set another goal for me to continue posting regularly for the next 15 days.
Do I feel pressurized to do it? No. Is anyone forcing me? No. Am I excited to do it? Hell, yeah.
Blogging is one of my favorite hobbies. And everything that consumes your time doesn’t have to bring you money or a grand prize. But the happiness and satisfaction you get by doing things you love is nothing less than a victory. And who knows… one day I might begin to set bigger goals for my blog and if I participate again in such a blogging event then, maybe I can earn some money too haha.
The point remains the same. Do it if it makes you happy.
