Hey everyone. A very happy Diwali to all of you.

I’m very excited to share yesterday’s pictures of Deepavali and also about how we celebrated it. Many of my friends who aren’t Indian but showed great interest in this beautiful festival. So I’m thankful to all of you who encouraged me to write this post. Here I want to mention my new friend April, we met on social media 2 days ago and I told her about Diwali and it was amazing to see that how excited she was about this festival (Thanks April)🥰.

Diwali…

Diwali (also known as Deepavali) is a grand Indian festival which is celebrated in India every year with great joy. On this day God Rama, his wife Sita and Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king ‘Ravana’. When they returned after their 14 years of exile, people of Ayodhya lighted clay lamps all around the kingdom to celebrate that holy day.

Diwali symbolizes “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”. On this day people worship to Goddess of wealth ‘Lakshmi.’

(On 13th November, in Ayodhya people lighted over 6 lakh (0.6 million) clay lamps and made a world record)

Today is Govardhan Puja. This day we worship the cows, we call them ‘Gau mata’. So a happy ‘Govardhan Puja’.

Celebration…

It’s a five day long celebration (you can check out my previous posts). We were preparing for Diwali since a week and it was really hard and I’m very tired now but it was really fun and I love it.

We were cleaning, renovating etc. etc. trying to make everything beautiful. A day before Diwali.. our house was in a mess… here and there.. here and there.

On the day of main celebration (yesterday) we woke up very early in the morning as we had to complete many things.

Around 8: 30 AM, I picked beautiful flowers from our pretty small garden for the puja (worship) in the evening.

Morning and noon went in cleaning and checking out that everything is clear or not.

Di (elder sister) and I started to make Rangoli (a design made of color powders) around 6 PM. I know it’s late for many who know about the celebration but we started as fast as we could. Here is our Rangoli..

I know it’s not very great, others make really beautiful Rangoli designs but I have to admit that I’m not very good in making Rangoli and it’s also because we were really tired and had to make it quickly. (By the way, my sister’s nickname is ‘Rayna’ and mine is ‘Bulbul’)

After finishing the Rangoli we started the puja.

Just after that we lighted the clay lamps; it’s my favorite part of this celebration. Our house looks the best for me this day.

After finishing it we played with some fire-crackers. I know it’s not good for the environment and truly, no one in my family is a big fan of fire-crackers. We just lighted some small lighting ones to complete the day and yes.. in some places of India, fire-crackers are banned this Diwali to protect the environment and I’m with this decision. Our environment is much more important than loud voices of booming crackers.

I feel very bad for dogs this day, our pet was crying yesterday because of the loud boom of crackers.

So it’s my thought that even if you are in a nice atmosphere, it’s not very important to play with loud fire-crackers, it’s not good for the nature, animals, old people and also to you. But if you really like to play with them a lot, try with small lighting crackers, you’ll enjoy them too.

May Goddess bless you and bring you lots of happiness and worth.

Hope you liked this post. Thanks a lot for reading.

Take care! Stay safe!

Thanks for sharing about this day and enlightening me on the meaning. I honestly had never heard of it before. Considering everything that is going on, this day is even more significant this year :) So I see that you celebrate with fireworks and beautiful flowers. Do you eat any special meals during this celebration?
